Sooz Puts Her Thinking Cap On
No
one at home could understand Why Sooz was so quiet, so off-hand. Her food bowl stayed full, the squirrels ran free, And cars parked at the gate with impunity. Sooz just frowned and went off to her bed, While Sal, though lonely, was extra well fed. |

Sal
said to her, “Sooz, if you don’t eat your tea, I’m afraid they’ll take you to the Veterinary. |
Forget
about the bunnies,” was his advice – “And Pink Donkeys – he’d seen them once or twice- ” |

(Sal’s
past was quite mysterious). “Oh!” squeaked Sooz, “Are you serious? The donkey told me about things I didn’t understand, Like Circus, Clowns, Sawdust, Spotlights and the Band.” |
“Its
quite horrid” said Sal, "Its noisy and bright. The Clowns all chase you, or run about and fight. They wear silly clothes and try to jump on the donkey’s back, And the audience all laugh when they fall with a thwack.” |

Sooz frowned
even more; “That doesn’t sound right, He said a green fairy with wings sparkly white”. “Oh, well, I didn’t see that” said Sal, “I ran away. I was an orphan pup, and I was too scared to play. |
But
I did see a dog on a pony doing acrobatics, And a hen like the ones next door, which did counting tricks.”
“Tell me, Sal!” and she cheered up quite a lot. “It’s riding on a pony leaping off and jumping back, And standing on one paw, as it canters round the track.” |

“Ooh,
I would Like to do that!” said Sooz, tail a-wag. “But we don’t know any ponies,” said Sal, “that’s the snag.” “Hmm,” thought Sooz, “ there’s the Pink Donkey, though. I wonder if I can get him to let me have a go.” Then she smiled and licked her lips and went off to eat her tea. “Tomorrow,” she said to herself, “You rabbits, you just see.” |
